Online review

An online review is a public star rating and written comment a guest leaves on a platform like Google or Yelp, and collectively reviews are one of the strongest local-ranking and trust signals a restaurant has.

An online review is a guest's public verdict: a star score plus a few sentences on Google, Yelp, TripAdvisor, or a delivery app. In aggregate reviews do two jobs at once, persuading the next diner and feeding the algorithms that decide whether you appear at all. Reading them is now near-universal: 75% of consumers read reviews for local businesses always or regularly, and Google is the most-used source, relied on by 81% of review-readers.

For an independent restaurant the dollar impact is unusually direct. A one-star increase in a restaurant's Yelp rating leads to a 5-9% increase in revenue, an effect driven by independent restaurants, not chains. And replying matters as much as collecting: businesses that reply to at least a quarter of their reviews average 35% more revenue than average, and 88% vs 47% of consumers would use a business that replies to all its reviews versus one that never responds. Ignoring your reviews leaves both trust and money on the table.

AI makes review work sustainable for a small team: it monitors every platform in one place, drafts on-brand replies in seconds, and runs Sentiment analysis across hundreds of comments to surface the recurring complaint or the dish everyone loves. Reviews also drive discovery, since your Star rating and Review velocity feed the Map pack (local pack) and AI recommendations. See review management.
