Segmentation
Segmentation is dividing your guests into meaningful groups (lapsed regulars, VIPs, first-timers, big spenders) so you can send each the right message instead of blasting everyone the same thing.
Segmentation is sorting your guest list into groups that behave alike: first-time visitors, loyal regulars, big-check spenders, brunch-only diners, people who have not been in sixty days. Instead of one generic email to everyone, you speak to each group about what is actually relevant to them, which is the difference between marketing that gets opened and marketing that gets muted. It runs on the First-party data sitting in your Customer relationship management (CRM).
A blanket "10% off everything" trains your best regulars to expect discounts they never needed while doing nothing to recover the lapsed guest who actually needs a nudge. Targeted segments fix that: a win-back offer to people drifting toward Churn, a perk for your top spenders, a first-visit follow-up that turns a trial into a habit. Since 74% return after a unique experience and 81% have opted in to business texts, reaching the right group at the right moment is where retention is actually won.
Segmentation is a natural fit for AI, which can spot patterns a person would miss and build segments automatically (predicted churn risk, likely-to-upgrade, dormant high-value) then help write a message tuned to each one. Done well it powers a more effective Loyalty program and a higher Customer lifetime value (CLV). See email and SMS marketing and loyalty and retention.
